Pharmaceutical and Healthcare is the primary pillar of development in any economy, be it developing or development. The basic indicator of growth identification in an economy is generally referred to as the Human Development Index (HDI). According to the study involved with HDI, human health is regarded as one of the basic necessities which need to be fulfilled so that there is smooth operational functioning in the economy and that too on a continuous basis.
Telemedicine facilities have assumed tremendous importance with online recommendations and doctor consultations becoming the need of the hour. Prescriptions are sent through social media channels of the patient. Proper monitoring mechanisms are established to ensure patient redressal. In light of COVID 19, healthcare and pharma have assumed even more quantum of importance.
The growth of telemedicine facilities and online consultation services by medical experts and professional doctors have become the norm. Patients fear that if they visit the private clinics managed by the doctors, chances of contracting the virus increases considerably. Thus they have preferred to stay at home and consult the doctors for adequate advice through online facilities.
However, there are a few strict rules and regulations that need to be followed in order to ensure that the Telemedicine Facilities are properly regulated, and their functioning takes place in an appropriate manner. For that, they need to follow a set of steps that are considered as statutory requirements.
Maintaining agreements are very crucial for the registration process of Medical Practitioners. Without the proper agreement termination and conclusive cancellation of service providing activities are inevitable. Agreements are signed between the private medical practitioners and the requisite government body under which it falls. Firstly, they need to ensure that the medical practitioners who are providing consultation services are Registered Medical Practitioners (RMP).
Secondly, there are certain compliance regulations for the RMP's that must be strictly followed. Any RMP who is non-complying with the guidelines, its actions should be adequately reported to the regulatory authorities. Constant vigilance and reporting measures shall be established so that any anomaly can be reported within a specific period of time.
In addition to the above-stated regulations, the telemedicine facilities shall ensure that when they record information related to the consumer, they focus on the basic and most necessary form of information including the user's name, age, comorbidities, etc.
Proper guidelines should be ensured for counseling. Their diseases shall be identified with proper scrutinization and repeated questioning so that the exact cause behind the occurrence of the disease can be identified and then a perfect solution can be provided.
The sale of prohibited drugs, drugs that might cause stimulating effects in a patient may sometimes in hindsight be harmful to their body functioning in the future, must be completely restricted. For these proper personnel should be employed. Depending on Artificial Intelligence Systems would not be a feasible option to regulate such actions.
Till now we only gained an idea about the regulations in relation to the telemedicine consultation facilities. Now we would be giving a detailed outlook on the rules and guidelines mentioned for the pharmaceutical companies. Firstly, the companies must maintain proper records of the patients which tend to be very helpful for the purposes of future reference.
Moreover, if any discrepancy in the practice is noted later, the records can be consulted, and adequate solutions can be determined. Secondly, the patients should be consulted before any medicine is being prescribed to them. The patient's consent is extremely crucial before undertaking any operation in relation to prescribing him medicines that would act as a cure to the problems that are taking place inside his or her body.
Lastly, there should be strict measures on the sale and usage of prohibited substances. At times drugs that tend to cure a disease tend to create or regenerate another new disease in the human body.
Constant auditing and surveillance are extremely crucial to keep the companies in check. Proper branding of the medicines and segregation into categories of diseases they cure is extremely crucial in order to stop lawlessness in this particular sector and ensure that the pharmaceutical sector grows exponentially.
Thus, we get to infer that Pharma Companies and the Telemedicine Facilities are the beaming indications of growth, both qualitative and quantitative in the economy. However, their unlimited growth prospects should not become exploitative and unrestricted, so that they can operate freely and such a notion should not be encouraged that their actions would not have any sort of consequences.
