Report: PM Modi Announces National Digital Health Mission

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi made an announcement of the launch of the National Digital Health Mission. The initiative taken by PMO runs under every citizen of the country and will be rewarded with a singular health ID card. The recognition given by the government under this initiative act would define confidential medical data like an individual’s medical record, discharge summaries as a database, and prescriptions. Patients can also refer to these prescriptions and health ID cards to their doctors and health providers as one-time access to the present data during visits to the hospitals or for consultation.

The ‘One Nation One Health Card’ scheme pushes to provide advanced healthcare facilities to the people. This scheme can be accessed by authorized persons across the country. The scheme operates on the basis of keeping records of the patient in terms of any on-going treatment and medical care.

The National Digital Health Blueprint (NDHB) focuses on providing efficient and affordable health coverage through a wide range of data and infrastructure services by leveraging open digital systems which will ensure the security and privacy of private information.

The need of the hour was to make an ecosystem which could integrate the prevailing disparate health information systems and showed a transparent path for upcoming programs. The NDHB is aimed to help in providing a standard platform for the mixing of existing applications in the healthcare domain and data which has existed in silos, either during a public clinic or during a private health care facility in India.

Positive Outcomes of National Digital Health Card

The National Digital Health Mission is an ambitious mission that aims to equip 1.3 billion citizens of the country with a one-stop solution for every citizen’s healthcare. It comes under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). The mission is predicted to reinforce the efficiency of health services within the country. The NDHM is anticipated to be a digital infrastructure aimed toward delivering the health care needs for anyone and everybody. The mission will specialize in empowering every Indian with high-quality healthcare, which can be accessed from any part of the country.

The health IDs will be similar to that of Aadhar-like unique IDs. It will store every single information on a person's case's healthcare history. The details are going to be mapped with the citizen's unique ID. the government aims to form a digital ecosystem linked with the Health ID which may later become a necessary need for any health-related queries.

 

According to NITI Aayog way back, the health ID card will have easy access to medical services. It is anticipated to be the part of National Health Stack which is a digital backbone of the country’s healthcare system. This will facilitate telemedicine, e-pharmacy, and collection, consolidation, and interoperability of health data.

Executions of NDHM

Targeted to bring in more efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency of health service delivery, the success is going to be ultimately measured by the execution of the mission. While the missions are going to be regulated by the government body, the operations and management are going to be kept separate.
